Manufacturing of Screw Rotors Via 5-axis Double-Flank CNC Machining

We investigate a recently introduced methodology for 5-axis flank computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining, called double-flank milling (Bo et al., 2020). show that screw rotors are well suited this manufacturing approach where the tool possesses tangential contact with material block on two sides, yielding more efficient variant of traditional milling. While tool’s motion is determined as helical motion, shape and its orientation respect to axis unknowns in our optimization-based approach. demonstrate several rotor benchmark examples pairs envelopes custom-shaped meet high machining accuracy.
